Community-wide holiday party - Dec 5, 2006

With holiday ornaments on the trees, painted on the children’s faces and decorating Christmas cookies, the Balsam lobby at Southwestern Community College filled with colorful festivities during the community-wide holiday party Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Especially fond of candy canes, Heather Langston, 4, of Franklin makes an ornament to match the design on her face. Her great-grandmother, Annette Gardner of Franklin, helps at the event sponsored by several non-profits including the Department of Social Services, the Family Resource Center and Region A Partnership for Children. Several SCC faculty and staff were among the many volunteers at the event which included crafts, music, games, prizes, lots of finger foods and an appearance by Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

Seven-year-old Novy Dare, who tried his hand at ringing in holiday cheer, accompanied his grandmother, Linda Fitzsimmons of Bryson City, to the event.

Kearnan Grizzle and Melba Richards

Volunteer Melba Richards of Cullowhee helps Kearnan Grizzle, 5, daughter of Diandra Frommer of Sylva, make a holiday stamp at the community-wide holiday party Dec. 5 at SCC. The event, sponsored by the Jackson County Family Resource Center, Region A Partnership for Children, Dept. of Social Services and the Jackson County Public Library, featured crafts, music, games, prizes, finger foods and visits with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Several SCC faculty and staff were among the volunteers helping make the very well-attended event such a spirited success.
