What is very new,
yellow and free to the person who
makes a hole-in-one on the first
tee at Highlands Cove golf course
on Oct. 4? According to Sonja Haynes,
Southwestern Community College Foundation
director, it’s a new truck.
"The first person to make a
hole-in-one at our fund raiser golf
tournament will win a brand new
Chevy Colorado truck from Allison’s
Chevrolet Jeep dealership in Sylva,”
Haynes said. “And we really
want to give this truck away this
year. We are inviting all area golfers
to come out, take a swing and win
this truck.”
Funds raised through the golf tournament
at Highlands Cove, located between
Cashiers and Highlands, benefit
the Foundation’s scholarship
program.
"This is the only fund raiser
the Foundation holds specifically
for scholarships,” Haynes
said. “The people who sign
up for teams in the golf tournament
help deserving students go to college.
It’s really that simple. Tournament
participants are contributing to
both the future of SCC students
and the communities in which the
students live; because the majority
of our students stay and work in
Jackson, Macon and Swain counties
and the Cherokee Boundary.”
Looking at the truck, Haynes said
that it is not the only incentive
being offered to players.
"Winning team members receive
gift certificates to the pro shop
at Highlands Cove,” she said.
“In addition, it’s just
plain fun to play this beautiful
course. It’s really spectacular.”
