Introduction
to Gaming Industry
To train individuals for
the gaming industry, Southwestern Community
College will offer the course Introduction
to the Gaming Industry in the college's
spring schedule lineup.
"This course was designed in cooperation
with management personnel at Harrah's
in Cherokee. It's one of several that
will lead to a certificate in gaming management
at SCC for those who want to work in a
casino. This is also a course of interest
to people who just want to know what actually
goes on in a casino," said Thom Brooks,
SCC dean of career technologies.
Introduction to the Gaming Industry will
be offered on Monday evenings from 6 to
8:30 p.m. in the ITV rooms on the Jackson,
Macon and Swain campuses. This course
provides a basic understanding of the
gaming industry through review and analysis
of the industry's history, growth, and
future development. Topics for this class
include economics and profitability, casino
and hotel interface, organizational operational
structure, legal issues, demographics,
labor force issues, and career opportunities.
