SCC
receives $50,000 donation from Macon Bank
Macon Bank in Franklin has
donated $50,000 to Southwestern Community
College to furnish the conference room
in the SCC Macon Campus building now under
construction on Siler Road in Franklin.
In presenting the check to Connie Haire,
vice president for the Macon Campus and
Institutional Development, Macon Bank
president and CEO Roger Plemens expressed
appreciation for SCC's contributions to
the community and region.
"Southwestern has always been a great
asset to Macon County and the Franklin
area. We are pleased to help in the building
of their beautiful new campus in Franklin,"
he said. "Many of our employees attended
SCC, so we know first hand the solid education
that students receive by attending the
college."
According to Haire, the donation will
also cover the installation of video conferencing
and multi-media equipment. "This
generous gift will enhance our distance
learning capabilities and provide our
students additional educational resources,"
she said. "In honor of this gift
and the diverse support Macon Bank has
given the college over the years, we will
name the room the Macon Bank Conference
Room."
With Haire and Plemens at the presentation,
Sonja Haynes, director of the SCC Foundation,
noted that other gifts are being received
for the new campus. "As we approach
the opening of the building, we have experienced
a great deal of generosity from the people
of Macon County," she said. "Like
Macon Bank, they are aware that the funds
for the new facility will not cover all
the necessary equipment and furnishings
needed. They are responding by coming
forth to fill those needs."
