SCC accepting lit magazine applications

SCC MilestoneSubmissions are being accepted for the eighth annual Southwestern Community College Milestone, a publication designed to showcase local writers' and artists' talents.

All individuals who are residents of Jackson, Macon or Swain counties and the Qualla Boundary, as well as all SCC students and alumni who are interested in being published in Milestone, have until December 1 to submit their unpublished work.

First- and second-place prizes will be awarded in three categories: poetry, short story and visual art, including photography. Only black and white artwork and photography will be accepted.

Prose should not exceed 2,000 words and poetry should be less than two pages in length. All writing is to be double-spaced and submitted in paper format or via email. Each page must be numbered and the author's name, address, telephone number and email address should appear only on the last page.

Artists and photographers should submit black and white copies only of original artwork. They must include their name, address, and telephone number, title of work and photo caption, if applicable, on the back of each submission.

Submissions must be postmarked by December 1. All submissions are to be sent to: SCC Milestone; Attn. Toni Knott, Learning Assistance Center; 447 College Drive; Sylva, NC 28779 or via email to tknott@southwesterncc.edu.

Also, monetary contributions to the funding of Milestone may be made by check, payable to the Southwestern Community College Foundation, and may be sent to: Sonja Haynes, Director; SCC Foundation; 447 College Drive; Sylva, NC 28779.

For more information, contact Owen Gibby at 800.447.4091 or 828.586.4091, ext. 314, or Toni Knott at ext. 325.
