Accelerated Real Estate course

Starting in October, Southwestern Community College will provide a fast track to a career in Real Estate through its new weekend Accelerated Brokerage Preparation course.

Scheduled from October 14 through November 19, the intensive 6-weekend program will prepare candidates for the North Carolina Real Estate Licensing Exam. The class will meet on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the SCC Macon Campus Annex.

SCC instructor Fil Powell will lead the class. Powell, owner of Powell Properties in Morganton, has over 21 years of experience teaching real estate and appraisal courses. A resident of Dillsboro, he also teaches real estate fundamentals, real estate math and provisional brokerage classes at SCC and has spearheaded this new curriculum offering.

"The real estate market is really vibrant in Jackson, Macon and Swain counties. It's no longer a seasonal market; it's wide open all the time," Powell said. "While there is a great demand in the market, we have the same demand for real estate practitioners throughout the region. At SCC we're making every effort to fill the need and meet the demand."

According to Powell, although the course is just over a month long, the class will meet state regulations required for real estate brokers.

"Over this short period of time, the students will receive in-depth instruction and will earn the 75 state mandated hours needed," he said.
