SCC
/ Rotary Career Fair
"Every
time a business promotes itself,
it uses graphic design in some form,"
Southwestern Community College advertising
and graphic design student Hether
Pierce tells Mace Gibson during
SCC/Rotary Club Career Fair Nov.
9. The event gives students who
are interested in a particular career
the opportunity to talk to professionals
already working in that field. Pierce,
who is a graphic designer and photographer
in Highlands, told Gibson of the
high success rate of SCC advertising
and graphic design students who
find positions following graduation-
or, like her, even before. The son
of Jay and Gail Gibson of Sylva,
Gibson is a 9th grader and New Century
Scholar at Smoky Mountain High School.

During
the Southwestern Community College/Rotary
Club Career Fair Sera Short, right,
talks with Swain County New Century
Scholars high school coordinator
Susan Burkhart, left, about career
options. So far the Swain High 11th
grader, daughter of Rukh and Curtis
Maharaj, is leaning towards a health
career, most likely nursing. Sponsored
by the Rotary Club, the event gives
New Century Scholars who are interested
in a particular career the opportunity
to talk to professionals already
working in that field.
