Lunch-N-Learn program to help small businesses
sell to the government
Each year the federal
government purchases over $2 billion
in goods and services in North Carolina.
The Southwestern Community College
Small Business Center, in conjunction
with the NC Military Business Center,
will host a lunchtime seminar on
Wednesday, Oct. 11, to give an overview
of government opportunities for
small businesses. Participants will
learn how a business can sell to
the Department of Defense, the Environmental
Protection Agency, the Department
of Agriculture and other federal
agencies.

The instructor will
be Teresa Bouchonnet, a Franklin
native, retired Air Force major
and former contracting officer.
Bouchonnet has 26 years of experience
with every type of government contract
and cover where to look for projects
and what steps to take to join this
market.
"Right now in the local area
there are a large number of Forest
Service projects ranging from bridges
to equipment," said Russ Seagle,
Small Business Center director.
"We want to see Western North
Carolina businesses take advantage
of federal opportunities in our
own backyard, instead of those contracts
going to companies in other states."
The seminar will be held at the
SCC Swain Center 11 from 11:30 a.m.
to 1 p.m. and costs $5. Lunch will
be provided. Contact the Small Business
Center at 828.488.6413 to reserve
a seat no later than 5 p.m., Tuesday,
Oct. 10.
