Agreement with East Carolina University
Southwestern Community
College signed an information technology
articulation agreement with East
Carolina University.
The agreement allows students in
one of SCC's three information technology
degree programs to complete their
degree at SCC, with two to three
additional classes, and transfer
as a junior into the department
of technology systems at ECU. Students
will be able to complete their two
years at ECU totally online.

"This is a great opportunity
for our students," said Scott
Cline, SCC program coordinator for
computer information technology
and web technology. "Students
can stay close to home to complete
their associate's degree, and then
they can work totally from home
to complete their bachelor's degree."
The programs that will transfer
to East Carolina University are
computer information technology,
networking technology and web technology.
The computer information technology
curriculum prepares graduates for
employment with organizations that
use computers to process, manage,
and communicate information. Course
work will develop a student's ability
to communicate complex technical
issues related to computer hardware,
software, and networks in a manner
that computer users can understand.
Classes cover computer operations
and terminology, programming, operating
systems, database, networking, security,
and technical support.
The networking technology curriculum
prepares individuals for employment
supporting network infrastructure
environments. Students will learn
how to use technologies to provide
reliable transmission and delivery
of data, voice, image, and video
communications in business, industry,
and education.
The web technologies curriculum
prepares graduates for careers in
the information technology arena
using computers and distributed
computing to disseminate and collect
information via the web. Course
work in this program covers the
terminology and use of computers,
servers, databases, applications,
programming languages, as well as
web applications, site development
and design.
