Southwestern Community College student Christopher Salerno, 24, of Cullowhee has been awarded a $500 Wachovia Technical Scholarship. Candidates for this scholarship must demonstrate scholastic promise and be enrolled as a full-time student in the second year of a two-year educational program. Salerno’s current GPA is 3.61 and he made the Deans list during the fall semester. He plans to complete his college transfer degree at SCC then attend Western Carolina University. He has volunteered at the Community Table, the local animal shelter, the Community Christmas Party in Sylva and the Jackson County Family Resource Center and participates in the roadside cleanup effort sponsored by Adopt-a-Highway. The $500 Wachovia Scholarship, in Salerno’s own words, “will help me to realize my goals and reduce the amount of time I spend worrying about the financial burdens of college life.”
