“It’s whimsical-
to reflect my nature,”
said Southwestern Community
College culinary arts student
Gabriel Finnegan of Cullowhee
as he prepared his wedding cake
for judging Wednesday, Dec.
12.
“The top two layers
are chocolate with alternate
chocolate and cherry filling
and butter cream icing while
the bottom is an apple-filled
white cake- it’s something
for everyone,” said
Finnegan, who added red ornaments
and cartoon characters for
decoration.
Kari Litchfield of Franklin
created a hand-beaded cake
with white chocolate ganoche.
“I learned that ganoche
tends to bubble,” she
said, “but that doesn’t
affect the taste and I’ve
added two secret ingredients
to give mine a surprise.”
A select team of campus judges
based their results on taste,
as well as appearance:
