Commencement set for December 14
Eight New Century Scholars will
be among the 68 graduates in
Southwestern Community College’s
commencement Friday, Dec. 14.
The ceremony will be held at
4 p.m. in the Balsam Building
on the Jackson Campus.
Using a Reflections theme, SCC
English and humanities instructor
Chris Cox, also a writer with
the Smoky Mountain News, will
address the graduates. Gene
Couch, SCC vice president of
instruction and student services,
will recognize graduating honor
students while SCC President
Cecil Groves will confer degrees,
diplomas and certificates.
Due to the large class size
and a request by the students,
last year was the first year
Southwestern held a December
graduation. This year’s
December graduating class is
even larger than last year’s.
The 68 candidates include 35
in career technologies, 20 in
arts and sciences and 13 in
health sciences.
