Cecil Groves
Dedication ceremony
- August 30, 2007

A crowd of well-wishers
gave SCC President Cecil
Groves a standing ovation
during the dedication
ceremony Thursday, Aug.
30, when the new Macon
Campus was named the Cecil
L. Groves Center in his
honor. In making the presentation,
SCC Board of Trustees
Chairman Conrad Burrell
said, "Dr. Groves
has been instrumental
in the concept, design
and development of the
project and it was the
board's feeling that it
would not have been accomplished
without his vision and
leadership. The project
has been a community-based
effort, Dr. Groves, will
be the first to tell you
that. But what he probably
won't tell you is that
he is the one who brought
the community together
to realize the need and
potential for Macon's
very own college. Before
this building could be
built, consensus had to
be built. And Dr. Groves
was that builder."
