Kitchen to Market
Southwestern Community College,
in conjunction with other area
agencies, will offer From
Kitchen to Market,
a seminar on successfully operating
a home-based food business.
The seminar will be held at
SCC's Swain Center
on Highway 74W in Bryson City
from 9 a.m.
to 4 p.m. on
Tuesday, Oct.16.
The cost of the seminar is $10,
which includes lunch.
The seminar will feature representatives
from the NC Department of Agriculture's
Standards Division, as well
as the NCDA home kitchen inspector.
These agencies will discuss
the state requirements for a
home-based food business, labeling
and packaging, weights and measurements
issues, approval of recipes,
dealing with regulatory authorities
and organic certification.
The Small Business Center at
SCC will discuss various business
topics, including legal structure,
insurance, financing your business,
and marketing your food products
to businesses and the public.
There will also be a presentation
on production facilities available
at Stecoah Valley Food Ventures.
All instructors will be available
to answer individual questions.
Registration deadline
is noon on Monday, Oct. 15.
