Learning high-powered promotion
tips is a key topic in a series
of three upcoming seminars
sponsored by Southwestern
Community College’s
Small Business Center.
The first seminar on Friday,
Nov. 9, Successful Marketing
for the Craftsperson and the
Artist, will help
participants effectively move
their passions into a profitable
business. This program will
offer practical ways to better
price work and create a professional
marketing image and behavior
to interact more effectively
with both gallery and specialty
shop owners and managers.
Bring a work sample. The seminar
will be held on the Jackson
Campus in Bradford Hall, Room
100 from 8-11 a.m. under the
instruction of Valerie Harrison.
The cost is $5.
On Tuesday, Nov.
13, the High-Powered Promotional
Tips and Techniques
seminar will be held on the
Jackson Campus from 6-9 p.m.
For small business to compete
and pull ahead of the competition,
it must be distinct to keep
from becoming extinct, according
to presenter Gene Dowdle,
a marketing professional and
former owner of two ad agencies.
Dowdle has created effective
promotions for Papa’s
Pizza To-Go for over 20 years
and his clients include auto
dealers, retailers, manufacturers,
real estate companies, medical
professionals, building contractors
and financial institutions.
“This is a unique opportunity
to benefit from a wealth of
marketing experience,”
said Russ Seagle, director
of the Small Business Center.
“Mr. Dowdle has spoken
to people all over the country
about these highly effective
tips and techniques.”
The cost of the program is
$5, which includes all course
materials and refreshments.
From Garage to Market
will be presented on Thursday,
Nov. 15, from 6-9 p.m. on
the Jackson Campus. This seminar
will help participants evaluate
the business potential of
their hobby or interest and
assist them in making the
decision to actually start
a business.
“Doing something you
love as a hobby and making
money from that love are two
very different things. People
need to be ready before they
make that leap from tinkering
in the garage to striking
out on their own,” said
Seagle. The cost for the course
is $5, which includes course
materials and refreshments.

Business Center at 828.488.6413

these three seminars.
