| “You think that’s
hard hitting- think if
you were going five times
that fast,” Sgt.
Donnie Allen, left, with
the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Department tells Amanda
Cloer as she tests the
Seatbelt Convincer. Cloer
and other students in
Southwestern Community
College’s Emergency
Medical Science program
learned first hand Friday,
Sept. 21, what it felt
like to impact without
wearing their seatbelt.
Allen and Sgt. John Fox,
right, who operate the
sheriff’s Traffic
Enforcement Program, set
the new Seatbelt Convincer
up to 10 miles an hour
and even at that rate
students received quite
a jolt. Allen and Fox
were quick to point out
to the students that generally
when drivers have to stop
suddenly they are traveling
much faster and each mile
per hour increases the
force. “If you haven’t
been wearing your seatbelt,
this Seatbelt Convincer
will really convince you
to wear one,” said
Fox. |
