17, by Southwestern
Community College history
instructor Duane Wesolick.
As part of Constitution/Citizenship
Day, Wesolick will also distribute
pocket-size copies of the
constitution to the first
100 attendees at his presentation
in Myers Auditorium on the
Jackson Campus. The event
begins at 1 p.m. and is open
to the public.

Wesolick's program kicks off
a series of SCC-sponsored
community events. On Oct.
16 Wesolick, along
with SCC sociology instructor
Bucky Dann, will present a
History of the Muslim
World:1,400 Years of Conflict
and Misunderstanding.
Their one-hour presentation
will cover the political,
military and religious history
of the Middle East. The afternoon
program will be held at 3
p.m. Oct. 16, in
Bradford Hall Conference Room
and the evening program will
be held at 7 p.m. in the same
location.
SCC science instructor Deanne
Oppermann, who recently returned
from a fellowship trip to
Alaska, will share information
on World Oil Production:
What We All Need to Know on
Nov. 8. The program,
dealing with fossil fuel supply
and environmental impact,
will be held 2 p.m. at Bradford
Hall Conference Room. An evening
program at 7 p.m. will also
be held and will be in Balsam
148B.
Engineering and Environmental
Issues in Land Development
takes center stage as SCC
surveying/civil engineering
technology instructor Peter
Messier explores these major
issues here in the mountains
of Western North Carolina.
That program will be Dec.
4 at 7 p.m. in Bradford
Hall Conference Room and 2
p.m. the following day, Dec.
5, also at Bradford Hall.
