Me - Students practice for job interviews |
“Working as an individual
leader and as part of a team
are my strengths,” Southwestern
Community College outdoor
leadership major Matt Cooke
of Sylva, left, tells Barb
Putman, SCC dean of arts and
sciences during a mock interview
on the Jackson Campus Tuesday,
March 4. The interviews, conducted
similar to speed dating, give
upcoming graduates practice
in preparing for actual job
interviews when they graduate
in May. “The students
are evaluated after each of
their 10-minute interviews
and at the end of the session
our panel of volunteer faculty
and staff interviewers offer
them feedback,” said
Patty Kirkley, SCC career
counselor and coordinator
of the event. “It’s
a good experience for the
students because we concentrate
not just on the initial interview,
but on preparing for the interview,
including a top-notch resume,
dressing appropriately and
how to follow-up.” |
