| As part of
their support of education,
Tanner Companies participated
in the Fashion Show at Southwestern
Community College’s
Macon
Campus but it was really
one student who extended their
support.
“One of our May graduates
needed a jacket so she would
have a professional outfit
to wear on a job interview,”
said Patty Kirkley, SCC
career planning and placement
coordinator. “Betty
Teague, manager of the Franklin
Tanner Co., heard about
the situation and donated
a beautifully-tailored Doncaster
jacket to the student.”
“I saw this as a
special opportunity to help,”
said Teague.
Deborah Ballew- the student-
was certainly glad she did.
“It was such a generous
gift,” said Ballew,
who just received her associate’s
degree in business
administration from
SCC. “I was very honored
to receive the jacket and
so appreciative of how kind
they were in helping me.
The jacket is classic black
and will be a valuable addition
to my professional wardrobe.
I will get a lot of use
out of it.”

“Tanner has been
very involved with Southwestern
and was such a hit at our
fashion show,” said
Kirkley. “Betty not
only shared her beautiful
Tanner outfits, but she
talked to the students about
how to recognize quality
clothing. She even gave
them tips like hanging up
an outfit to air before
putting in back in the closet.
But she really showed how
much Tanner cares about
local education when she
gifted Deborah with the
black jacket.”
“We are proud of
Deborah,” said Connie
Haire, vice president of
the Macon Campus. “She’s
the first Macon graduate
to take all of her courses
in Macon County. We’ve
followed her since she first
started taking courses at
our annex downtown and then
came over and finished up
at our campus on Siler Road.
She’s an academic
award recipient and a member
of Phi
Theta Kappa International
Honor Society.”
Oh, yes. Ballew got the
job.
