Cherokee
High School senior Sara
Tramper performed Sherman
Alexie’s “The
Powwow at the End of the
World,” Hart Crane’s
“My Grandmother’s
Love Letters” and
Gwendolyn Brooks’
“A Song in the Front
Yard” during her Poetry
Out Loud presentation
at Southwestern Community
College Thursday, April
3. Sponsored by SCC’s
Native American Society,
the event was held on the
Jackson Campus. Tramper,
who was the runner up in
North Carolina’s Poetry
Out Loud Competition, met
informally with students,
faculty and staff following
her performance. “The
way she dramatized The Powwow
at the End of the World
moved us to tears. We’re
so proud she is one of our
Upward Bound students,”
said Upward Bound academic
advisors Erica Muse, center,
and Cheryl Renfro, right.
