Participants at a Leadership
on Fire seminar at Southwestern
Community College Friday,
Feb. 27, formed different
groups and decided strategies
on how to add members to their
group. In this exercise they
selected words in the circle
like respect, honesty, character
and responsibility that best
described traits they would
like to see in their teammates.
Sponsored by The North Carolina
Network for Excellence in
Teaching, Jim Cain, adventure-based
team builder and author, led
faculty, staff and students
from several institutions
through a series of team-building
activities. “People
who feel connected in the
workplace make more productive
co-workers,” said Cain,
senior consultant for the
Cornell University Corporate
Team Building Program. Cain
also led participants on a
journey through the historical
Mann Gulch, Montana forest
fire and the role leadership
played in the three seconds
that separated life from death
for three fire jumpers. SCC
is one of three regional centers
which are part of the North
Carolina Community College
System’s statewide NC-NET
initiative.
