Two Southwestern Community College students placed in the 15th Annual Gainesville State College Math Tournament held recently in Gainesville, GA. Tying for 16th, Southwestern students Malgorzata Chockla and Cristina Korb of Jackson County both placed in the top 20 for the morning competition.

Representing nine colleges from four southeastern states, 85 students competed in this one-day event. Students were challenged by a morning individual round involving calculus and an afternoon team round involving algebra, geometry, and other pre-calculus topics.

Georgia Perimeter College won both the college category and the individual category.
Students earned cash prizes up to $400 for placing in the top five in the individual round and gift cards for being a member of one of the top four teams.
