Donations are coming in
for Southwestern Community
College’s Coats for
Kids Drive, according to
Christy Rowe, who is organizing
the drive along with fellow
classmates in SCC’s
Positive Psychology class.
“We’ve had a
good response so far and
we are still accepting donations
until Oct. 31,” she
said. Donations of new or
gently-used coats, hats,
gloves and winter socks
for youth ages 3-18 may
be left in the donation
box in the lobby of SCC’s
Balsam Building on the Jackson
Campus. Donations may also
be left in the offices of
both Cullowhee Valley School
and Cullowhee United Methodist
Church. Those who need winter
clothing for youth ages
3-18 are invited to the
distribution day Saturday,
Nov. 7, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
in SCC’s Balsam Building
lobby. For more information,

Southwestern Community College’s
Coats For Kids Distribution
Day Saturday, Nov. 7, on
the Jackson Campus. Organized
by Christy Rowe (pictured

her SCC Positive Psychology
class, the project collected
more than 500 new and gently-used
coats which were available
on a first-come, first-serve
basis. “It was a totally
impressive project and showed
the power of what one person
can do,” said SCC
psychology instructor Tracy
Chapple, who also volunteered
as a personal shopper that
day. “We greatly appreciate
all the donations and support
for the children in our
community who will be warm
this winter because of so
many caring people,”
said Rowe.
Thank
you . .
Thank you to all who
donated their time,
energy, and items for
the Coats for Kids Drive.
The distribution day,
which was on November
7th, was a great success.
We collected over 500
coats. Hats, gloves
and socks were also
collected for the children.
The turn out of recipients
and volunteers was wonderful.
I believe this project
was a blessing for all
who were involved. Thank
you again for helping
the kids in Jackson
County stay warm this
winter season.
Thank You,
Christy Rowe |
