The College Readiness Club
at Macon Middle School recently
visited Southwestern Community
College’s Macon Campus
for a tour of the Early College.
GEAR UP College Readiness
Coach Mary Bennett arranged
the activity so students could
explore the option of attending
the Early College. Principal
Todd Gibbs greeted eight club
members and two parents and
led a tour of the new Early
College Building. Early College
students Elizabeth Birolin
and Nick Sprinkle described
the small, unique program
and answered questions.
The group then visited SCC’s
Cecil Groves Center and was
given a guided tour by Julie
Vorhees, the center’s
coordinator of business services.
Students peered into classes
in Spanish and medical terminology,
saw the student services lab,
explored the laboratory equipped
for science classes and viewed
the ITV rooms. An added bonus
was the chance to sit in the
Cecil Groves Board Room.
Members in attendance were
Chantel Chavis, Taylor Combs,
Savannah Conley, Hannah Doolittle,
Hannah Maloy, Tyler Reese,
Mary Watson, and Jacob Wilson.
Parent chaperones included
Tammy Conley and Holly Maloy.
