H1N1 Awareness – 9/11/09

Officials at Southwestern Community College are continuing to monitor the swine flu situation and are taking precautionary steps to keep our campus safe and healthy. We are in contact with regional health officials to ensure we have the latest and most up-to-date information.
The following tips have been issued by the Centers for Disease Control:
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective
Avoid close contact with sick people
If you get flu-like symptoms, stay home from work or school except to seek medical care and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them

H1N1 Flu Virus
The seasonal flu vaccine will not protect against the H1N1 flu virus (swine flu). Protection against H1N1 influenza will need a separate vaccine, which is still being developed. H1N1 vaccine availability will depend on the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations and supply. Updates will be provided when more information becomes available.
