2013 Job Fair—A Huge Success

There were more than 260 participants and 55 employers at this year's Job Fair.

One of the employers was Derik Shuler who is a Buyer’s Specialist with Keller Williams Realty in Franklin. Shuler is a native of Macon County. He attended Western Carolina University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management with a minor in Business Administration. He was a member of the Sigma Lambda Chi Construction Management Honors Society as well as a certified professional constructor as administered by the American Institute of Constructors. Shuler wanted to expand his field of expertise so he enrolled in SCC’s Real Estate Class in Fall 2011 and obtained his real estate license in January 2012.
Evelyn Owens, Owner/Broker of Keller Williams Realty who also attended the Job Fair was enthusiastic about Shuler’s skills. In 2012, he was voted Rookie of the Year. Upon winning, Shuler said “As I look back on 2012, what a year! Finally found my passion in my career in real estate, closed 20 transactions with over 4 million in volume and was voted rookie of the year by my fellow realtors!”

“The Fall 2011 class was an outstanding one. Everyone in that class of 11 took the state exam and passed. Shuler works hard, possesses outstanding organizational and people skills and is just a classic good guy,” said Bob Holt, real estate program coordinator at SCC.

The Job Fair is an annual event hosted by SCC’s Career Center. The mission of the Career Center is to educate students and alumni to prepare them for successful job searches and to develop and maintain rewarding relationships with a diversity of employers and SCC faculty and staff.
