Putman Named Dean of Arts and Sciences at SCC -
Putman came to the SCC four years ago from Long Beach,
CA as the learning assistance center coordinator and
most recently served as the director of academic support.
Prior to moving to Western North Carolina, Putman taught
English at DeVry University and at Burke High School
in Charleston, SC. (

Ralph
Taylor to Teach Watercolor & Egg Tempera Class for
SCC - Award-winning artist, Ralph Taylor, will lead
two courses at SCC's Cashiers Center. Taylor's art career
took off at the age of 35, when he began participating
in arts festivals. "Whenever possible, I like to
paint on location," said Taylor. "I can recall
painting on a mile-high mountain, in clouds so my water
colors would not dry, forcing me to dry them by my camp

Endowment - Southwestern
Community College's health science programs recently
received a $15,000 scholarship endowment from Dr. and
Mrs. Nagui El-Bayadi. Dr. El-Bayadi, a retired surgeon
with WestCare Health Systems, and his wife, Marion,
established this scholarship to provide deserving students
from Jackson, Macon and Swain counties financial assistance
