Southwestern Community College will hold a series of barbecue fundraisers over the next few weeks to benefit the SCC Foundation’s student emergency fund.

Established last fall, the emergency fund helps deserving students who encounter unexpected financial emergencies so that they can remain at SCC and continue working toward their degrees, diplomas and/or certificates.

The first luncheon is set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on March 23 at SCC’s Swain Center. That will be followed by future events at the Macon Campus (March 31) and Jackson Campus (April 7).

“We have extremely dedicated students at Southwestern, but an unforeseen circumstance can sometimes threaten their ability to attend class,” said Brett Woods, director of the SCC Foundation. “Our role is to support them as they pursue their paths to success at Southwestern, and this emergency fund allows us to do just that.”

Each meal costs $5 and consists of a barbecue sandwich, slaw, chips, a cookie and either lemonade or iced tea. Additional sandwiches will be $3 each.

RSVPs are encouraged so organizers can prepare enough meals.
