William Brothers has been promoted to the position of Vice President for Financial and Administrative Services at Southwestern Community College.

William Brothers, who has served as dean of career technologies since 2015, has been promoted to the position of vice president for financial and administrative services at Southwestern Community College.

Brothers holds an educational specialist degree from Nova Southeastern and master’s degrees in business administration and entrepreneurship from Western Carolina University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from Southern Wesleyan University.

After serving as an accountant for SC Telco Federal Credit Union and the Bank of Travelers Rest, he joined SCC as a business administration instructor in 2010. He became the accounting program coordinator in 2014.

“William has an extensive background in accounting and banking,” said Dr. Don Tomas, president of SCC. “I’m impressed with William’s appreciation of and dedication to our institution’s mission and unique culture as well as his passion for leading and working with our business office going forward. I am confident in his ability to reach across all sectors of the college to provide leadership, service and expertise in Financial and Administrative Services for our students, faculty and staff.”

Brothers replaces Cliff Stalter, who resigned as vice president in December.

Since 2014, Brothers has served as co-chair of SCC’s Quality Enhancement Plan committee – an essential role in SCC’s re-accreditation process with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commision on Colleges.

“I’m humbled by the confidence that Dr. Tomas and our college’s administration have shown in me,” Brothers said. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time as a faculty member and dean at Southwestern, and I’m extremely excited to serve the college in this new role.

We have an outstanding financial and administrative services team already in place, and I look forward to working closely with them.”

Southwestern, which has been ranked among the Top 10 community colleges in the nation three times in the past decade, serves Jackson, Macon, Swain Counties and the Qualla Boundary.
