The first people to respond in the case of a medical emergency were honored in a pinning ceremony on May 16 at Southwestern Community College’s Jackson Campus.

Recently obtaining their degrees in Emergency Medical Science from SCC were Levi Ledford of Franklin, Tina McCall of Tuckasegee, Sean Patrick Moore, Jr., of Franklin, David Pope of Sylva, Paiton Ray of Franklin, James Roberson of Franklin, Kayla Sloan of Sylva and Bobby Wilson of Cashiers.

All eight received their pins in the ceremony, and they were awarded their associate degrees two days later in SCC’s graduation ceremony.

“We challenge our students every single day they are in our program, so these graduates are fully prepared to start their careers in emergency medicine – or to continue their education if they choose,” said Eric Hester, EMS Program Coordinator and Instructor at SCC. “Our profession is not an easy one, but all of our graduates are ready to make a positive difference in the lives of those they serve in the months and years ahead.”

Graduates are eligible to take state and national certification examinations, and they can find employment with providers of emergency medical services, fire departments, rescue agencies and a wide range of other employers.

SCC is now accepting applications for prospective EMS students. For more information about the program at SCC, contact Hester at 828.339.4277 or ehester@southwesterncc.edu.
