Jeff Marley Selected for SNRC Fellowship

Jeff Marley, the Fine and Heritage Arts Program Coordinator at Southwestern Community College (SCC), has been selected by the Sequoyah National Research Center for their 2013 Art Fellowship.

The Sequoyah National Research Center (SNRC) is located at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The center is home to the Dr. J. W. Wiggins Native American Art Collection, Native American Publications Archive, and an extensive collection of the Trail of Tears through Arkansas. The SNRC annually offers four fellowships; three for research and one for art. Each fellow is expected to spend a work week conducting research at the center and receives a $1,500 honorarium to cover associated expense of travel and lodging. Also, the art fellow is invited to share any preliminary materials from their research as well as add an example of their work to the Center's collection.

“I feel honored to have been selected and I can’t wait to get hands-on with their collections,” Marley said. “This opportunity will have a great impact on my personal studio work as well as my work here at the College.”

Marley is currently completing his Master in Fine Arts through the low-residency program at Vermont College of Fine Arts. His studio work is based on themes from Cherokee culture and includes multimedia installations and performance. He has been with SCC since 2010.
