Retired educator Lambert Wilson of Bryson City was recently appointed to Southwestern Community College’s board of trustees for a third consecutive term.

The Jackson County board of education approved Wilson’s re-appointment, and he was sworn in at the SCC trustees’ quarterly meeting on Tuesday, July 25.

He has been on SCC’s board since 2009, and his current term expires in July of 2021.

“Lambert is extremely engaged in Southwestern Community College and our mission of supporting student success,” said Dr. Don Tomas, president of SCC. “His commitment to our institution and students extends far beyond quarterly board and committee meetings. For the last two years, he’s served as co-chair for our ‘Bluegrass, Blue Jeans & Bling’ gala. His leadership is a huge reason that event continues to grow and raise more than $60,000 annually primarily for student scholarships.”

A lifelong resident of Swain County, Wilson is a member of the Swain County Board of Education. During his career as an educator, he served as principal of Swain County East Elementary School as well as Whittier Elementary. He also taught at Almond Elementary.

He currently serves on the board of the Museum of the Cherokee Indian as well as the Cherokee Historical Association.

He owns and operates Drama Inn and El Camino Motel in Cherokee.

“I love SCC. It’s a great institution, and it serves a very valuable purpose in our community,” Wilson said. “I’m honored to have this opportunity to serve on the board. Ever since I’ve been on the board, we’ve had trustees who work together extremely well.”
