If you're an SCC student looking for help with any or all of your courses, consider using the free options offered by Learning Assistance: Jackson and Macon Learning Assistance Centers, the in-house Tutor Program, and Online Tutoring.

The LACs offer free drop-in assistance (no appointment necessary) provided by learning consultants who possess at least a bachelor’s degree in their field(s). In addition to providing help with advanced math, writing and science, learning consultants help to strengthen basic skills such as test preparation, reading comprehension and research. SCC students may also take advantage of free exam proctoring for their online and/or hybrid courses.

The Tutor Program provides free one-on-one or small group tutoring from qualified peer and non-peer tutors. Students may schedule in-house sessions with the Tutor Program two weeks after fall/spring semesters begin by clicking on the "Tutoring" button in any Moodle course.

For those who prefer online tutoring, each SCC student is given 240 minutes each semester/summer session for live, virtual help with a variety of subjects. Students may also submit essays or papers for review. Online tutoring can be accessed by clicking on the “Tutoring” button in any Moodle course.

The spring semester operating hours for the Jackson and Macon LACs are 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday - Thursday, and 8 a.m. - noon on Friday. Summers hours vary. Please visit www.southwesterncc.edu/learning-assistance/lac for details.

For more information, please contact Toni Knott (Jackson LAC - tknott@southwesterncc.edu), Joan Willis (Macon LAC - j_willis@southwesterncc.edu) or Julie Bennett (SCC Tutor Program - j_bennett@southwesterncc.edu).
