Madison Shuler has been chosen as the student representative for the SCC Board of Trustees. She was sworn in on Sept. 29 at the Jackson Campus in Sylva.

“I am super excited that I was chosen to be the student representative to the SCC board of trustees and I can’t wait to learn all about what goes on ‘behind the scenes,’” said Shuler.

Shuler is a 2015 graduate of Franklin High School and expects to graduate from SCC in May of 2017 with an associate in arts degree. She plans to pursue a degree in elementary education at a four-year university.

Her long-term educational goals include getting her master’s in education and possibly a degree in administration. She will serve on the board of trustees until the end of the spring 2017 semester.

Shuler was recently named Sylva Rotary Club’s SCC student of the month and has donated her time to several different SCC marketing campaigns.

“I am grateful that Madison was willing to represent her fellow students on our board of trustees,” said Dr. Don Tomas, president of SCC. “She represents SCC well with her hard work in and out of the classroom.”
