Fifteen graduates of Southwestern Community College’s Physical Therapist Assistant program were recognized during a pinning ceremony on May 9 at the Jackson Campus.

The students completed two years of classroom education and clinical training on their way to earning associate degrees from Southwestern.

They now can take their national exam and apply for state licensure to begin working at hospitals, nursing homes, clinics or other facilities. They may also continue their education and work toward a bachelor’s degree.

SCC’s PTA program coordinator is Dr. Diane Page, PT, DPT. The clinical coordinator is Susan Kimel, PT, and Jacqueline Burris, PTA, serves as an adjunct instructor.

“This has been an outstanding group of students,” Dr. Page said. “They’ve had to work hard and overcome a lot of challenges we’ve thrown their way, but they’ve all come through the better for it. We know they will do a great job of representing SCC as they start the next chapter in their lives.”
