SCC Career Seminars Program Awards New Laptop

Grand-prize winner for attending Southwestern Community College’s Career Seminars is Donna McDaniel, a student in SCC’s Health Information Technology program was the happy winner of a laptop on Thursday, April 18. The laptop was donated to the SCC Foundation by Drake Enterprises. It was the grand prize awarded at the final 2012-2013 Career Seminar featuring nationally and internationally known guest speaker Meridith Elliott Powell, who presented “Open the Door to the Power of Connections,” a powerful energy-filled presentation on networking. To be eligible for the grand prize drawing, students must have attended at least three Career Seminars.

McDaniel, a Franklin resident who will graduate in May with a 4.0 GPA, says that the laptop will help her as she begins her career as a medical coder or if she continues her education. Her existing computer has “issues” so winning the laptop was wonderful. McDaniel expresses her sincere appreciation to Drake Enterprises and to the SCC Foundation.

McDaniel says, “I would truly like to say thank you for this wonderful gift I have been granted. This computer was very much needed and the timing couldn’t have been better.”

Each year SCC offers a series of career-building seminars to its students to prepare them for job searches and professional success. The topics range from Business Etiquette, Dining Etiquette to Winning Resumes, Dress for Success and Interviews in the Round (mock interviews). Many local businesses provide prizes that are used as extra incentives for attending the seminars.
