SCC Upward Bound student Murray earns scholarship to Berea College

Katharine Murray, a senior at Swain High and a participant in SCC’s Upward Bound program, has received a scholarship to Berea College in Kentucky.

Swain High senior and Southwestern Community College Upward Bound participant Katharine Murray has been accepted to Berea College (Ky.) and received the school’s Tuition Promise Scholarship, which is currently valued at $97,200 over four years.

The scholarship is made possible through support of Berea alumni, friends and organizations.

Founded in 1855 in slave-holding Kentucky as the first interracial and coeducational college in the south, Berea College was ranked No. 1 in the nation by Washington Monthly for liberal arts education.
