A sampling of Jackson County artist Susan Lanier’s work is on display through May 6 at Southwestern Community College’s Jackson Campus.

The exhibit is open to the public from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m.-noon on Friday in the first-floor lobby of the Balsam Center.

A former SCC employee and past chair of the Jackson County Arts Council, Lanier passed away last September. Lanier, who earned a master’s degree in art education from Western Carolina University, served as GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergrate Programs) at SCC.

To honor her memory, the Jackson County Arts Council established the Susan Lanier Scholarship through the SCC Foundation. The scholarship is available to SCC students who reside in Jackson County. Students must maintain a 3.0 or higher average and be enrolled in an art program at SCC.

For information on how to make a gift to the scholarship, contact Brett Woods, director of the SCC Foundation at 828.339.4241 or b_woods@southwesterncc.edu.
