  Amy Macbeth - Respiratory Therapy Instructor/Clinical Coordinator, start 11/02/09
  Amy Macbeth, Respiratory Ms. Macbeth received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Respiratory Therapy from Florida Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Cardiopulmonary Science from the University of Central Florida. She also received training as an Emergency Medical Technician from Tallahassee Community College. Ms. Macbeth is a Registered Respiratory Therapist. She was previously employed as a critical care respiratory therapist by San Juan Regional Medical Center (Farmington, New Mexico) and as a respiratory therapist by Mercy Medical Center (Durango, Colorado), and as a critical care respiratory therapist at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. Most recently she has been self-employed as a yoga and pilates instructor.
     
  Caroline Luzene Hill - Associate in Fine Arts Program Outreach Coordinator, start 7/20/09
  Luzene Hill Ms. Hill received a bachelor’s degree in fine art from Western Carolina University.

Ms. Hill was most recently employed part-time as the Associate of Fine Arts program associate by Southwestern Community College (located at the Oconaluftee Institute for Cultural Arts). She was previously employed as an illustrator by Western Carolina University and as a box office manager by the Cherokee Historical Association. She was also employed as a special events coordinator/assistant to the chairman at Emory University.

     
  Erin McManus - College Access Liaison, start 8/3/09
  Erin McManus Ms. McManus received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Less McRae College and a master’s degree in biology from Wake Forest University. Ms. McManus was recently employed as a pre-college program coordinator by Western Carolina University. She was previously employed as the director of Upward Bound by Western Carolina University and as a GEAR UP resource teacher by Southwestern Community College. She was also employed part-time as a summer instructor for Upward Bound by Southwestern Community College.
     
  Cindy Thompson - GEAR Up College Readiness Coach, start 8/10/09
  Cindy Thompson Cindy Thompson received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish from Wake Forest University. Ms. Thompson gained a business background while working for Rod’s Auto Parts and Scott Rodes Buick Pontiac GMC. In addition she has eight years of combined work experience from Smoky Mountan High School and Southwestern Community which provided her a mix of secondary and post-secondary education knowledge, thereby making her well-suited for the GEAR UP position.
     
  Joel Queen - Associate in Fine Arts Program Coordinator/Instructor, start 8/10/09
  Joel Queen Joel Queen received a bachelor’s degree in art and a master’s degree in fine arts from Western Carolina University. Mr. Queen has over twenty years of experience in the art field and is the owner of Joel Queen Gallery, Inc. He was also the owner of Joel Queen Wholesale. He has held part-time instructor positions with Western Carolina University, Stone Mountain Park, the North Carolina Potter Center, Cherokee High School, the Junaluska Museum and Memorial Site, the North Carolina Museum of History, the Cherokee Heritage Center, and the Museum of the Cherokee Indian. Mr. Queen has received numerous awards for his art. His art has also been on display at local, regional, national, and international museums such as the Museum of the Cherokee Indian (Cherokee, N.C.), the North Carolina Museum of History (Raleigh, N.C.), the Smithsonian (Washington, D.C.), and the British Museum (London, England).
     
  Matthew Shirey - Carpentry/Welding Instructor – Jackson School of Alternatives, start 8/10/09
    Mr. Shirey will be awarded a Bachelor of Science from Clarion University Summer 2009. He is currently employed by SCC as a part-time Carpentry/Welding instructor at the Jackson County School of Alternatives (HUB). Mr. Shirey has extensive work experience as a master carpenter and holds certifications in both carpentry and welding.

     
  Scott Clontz - Advertising and Graphic Design instructor, start 08/11/09
  Scott Clontz Mr. Clontz received an associate’s degree in advertising and graphic design from Southwestern Community College and a bachelor’s degree in graphic arts and imaging technology from Appalachian State University. Mr. Clontz is currently employed as a graphic designer by Singing News Magazine. He was previously employed as a graphic designer by Street and Smith’s Sports Business Journal. He was also employed as a creative services assistant and print production assistant by Hearst Magazines

     
  Ashley Cunningham - Criminal Justice Technology Instructor, start 8/11/09
  Ashley Cunningham Ms. Cunningham received an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Western Piedmont Community College, a bachelor’s degree in social science/criminal justice from Gardner-Webb University, and a master’s degree in two-year college teaching from Western Carolina University. Ms. Cunningham was most recently employed as a part-time criminal justice and law enforcement instructor by Southwestern Community College. She is also employed as a part-time criminal justice instructor by Western Carolina University. Previously, Ms. Cunningham was employed as an auxiliary security officer by Western Carolina University, a social worker/child protection services investigator by Macon County Department of Social Services, and a detention officer by Macon County Sheriff’s Office. She was also employed as a correctional officer by the North Carolina Department of Correction.
     
  Greg Harbeson - Surveying Technology Instructor/Program Coordinator, start 8/11/09
  Greg Harbeson, Surveying Mr. Harbeson received an associate’s degree in computer engineering technology from Florida Community College at Jacksonville and a bachelor’s degree in surveying and mapping from University of Florida. Mr. Harbeson was employed as a survey manager by Galena Engineering, a field engineer/trainer by Measutronics Corp., and a survey manager by B.D.I. Inc. He was also employed as a project manager by Goff Engineering and Surveying and a part-time instructor at San Juan Basin Technical School. In addition, Mr. Harbeson is a veteran of the United States Navy.
     
  Gary Duven - Carpentry Instructor/Swain High School, start 8/11/09
  Gary Duven Gary Duven received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Florida.

Mr. Duven is the current owner of Euchella Sport Lodge, a wilderness sport resort, and Euchella Company, a general contracting company. He previously owned Rolling Thunder River Company, a whitewater rafting company. He was also employed as a high school biology teacher by Alfred B MaClay School.

     
  Claude “Tres” Rogers - Carpentry Instructor – Cherokee High School, start 8/11/09
  Tres Rogers Mr. Rogers received a bachelor’s degree in forestry from Western Carolina University. Mr. Rogers was most recently self-employed as a project manager, supervising job site construction for a homeowner. He previously owned Tallulah Construction Services and Rogers’ Drywall. He was also employed as a building superintendent by America’s Homeplace.
