Ms. Cain received her Master’s of Science in Communications from University of Louisiana. Ms. Cain has been employed with Radii Technologies, Inc as the Director of Communications on a consultant basis since 2007. Prior to her experience at Radii Technologies, she was an adjunct instructor at Western Carolina University and an Assistant Professor of Communications at Francis Marion University.

Brian Kane earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Spatial Art from Youngstown State University. He then earned a Master’s of Fine Arts in Studio Art and Sculpture from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Kane is currently employed at the College of Charleston as an adjunct instructor and has a seasonal contract with Redux Contemporary Art Center as an art teacher for sculpture workshops. He is also the current owner of Charleston Fine Art Services. Mr. Kane’s other experience includes a graduate assistantship as an instructor of record and a workstudy position as a Spatial Arts Assistant.

Mr. Waggener earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Ocean Engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology. He then earned a Master’s of Science in Mathematics from the College of Charleston. Mr. Waggener has been employed by Trident Technical College as a mathematics instructor since 1997. Prior to working at Trident Technical College he was employed by the College of Charleston as a visiting math instructor, full-time adjunct and graduate assistant.

Ms. Smith has been employed with the Cherokee Historical Association as a Program Assistant & Guest Services Coordinator since May 2005. Her prior experience was as an intern at Junaluska Memorial & Museum.

Ms. Posey received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Parks and Recreation Management from Western Carolina University. For the past two years, Ms. Posey was employed with Swain County Schools as a Substitute Teacher & Teacher’s Assistant. Prior to her employment with Swain County Schools, she was employed for almost ten years at the Swain County Recreation Department as the Recreation Director.

Mary Mason received a Bachelor’s of Science in Education and a Master’s of Education both from Western Carolina University. Ms. Mason was previously employed with Gwinnett County Public Schools in Georgia from 1981- 2005. While at Gwinnett County Schools, she was employed in a variety of roles that included the Department Chair/ Head and teaching multiple subjects: ESOL, Health, and Physical Education at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Ms. Hansen received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Visual Arts from Utah State University and her Masters of Arts in K-12 Art Education from Western Carolina University. For the past three years, Ms. Hansen was employed with Jackson County Schools. She worked for Smokey Mountain Elementary as an Afterschool Site Coordinator and at Jackson County School of Alternatives as a K-12 Art Teacher.

William Moore - Facilities Maintenance/Cleaning Technician, start 9/27/10
 
Bill Moore
William Moore has a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from Berea College. Mr. Moore was previously employed at Carolina Cable Telephone Contractors as the Office and Yard Clerk from 1995-2010. His experience while employed at Carolina Cable included the maintenance and cleaning of the property. His work experience also includes the North Carolina Department of Transportation as a Maintenance Worker and Beldon Electric as a Machine Operator.

Wade Lewis - Cleaning Supervisor, start 8/16/10
  Wade Lewis

Mr. Lewis obtained his HVAC certification and was most recently employed at Fred Houston Construction. His responsibilities included some general carpentry from framing to finishing and all aspects of remodeling from plumbing to electrical. Prior to his construction experience, Mr. Lewis worked in a maintenance capacity for Sapphire Management Company. While there he assisted the cleaning crew, order supplies, was the contact for vendors and supervised subcontractors. Mr. Lewis also worked at Wal-Mart supervising employees in the stockroom.


Kathy Thomas - Administrative Assistant – Arts & Sciences, start 7/28/10
  Kathy Thomas Kathy Thomas received an Associate of Arts degree in Business from Triton College. Ms. Thomas has been previously employed with Nantahala Bank & Trust Company as a Loan Operations Associate & Loan Officer Assistant. Her prior experience was an assistant at Coward, Hicks, & Siler, PA and a purchasing agent at the Dillard House.

David Young - Maintenance Technician, start 7/28/10
  David Young David Young has previously been self employed in the residential maintenance/ construction industry. His experience while self employed includes remodeling, tiling, painting, etc. Prior to becoming self employed he was employed at Howard Parris Carpentry doing carpentry, painting, tiling, and plumbing from 1998 through 2009. Before then, he was employed at Roger Aiken Carpentry as a carpenter from 1996-1998.

Jennifer Hippensteel - Writing Across the Curriculum Coordinator, start 8/2/10
  Jenn Hippensteel

Jennifer Hippensteel obtained a Bachelor of Arts from King College and a Master of Arts from Wheaton College .Ms. Hippensteel has worked as the part-time Writing Across the Curriculum Coordinator for Southwestern Community College since February 2009. Prior to that, she substituted at Norfolk Collegiate School and was also employed as an English Teacher at Virginia Beach Friends School. Ms. Hippensteel also has several years experience in experience as an Assistant Trainer at Elfenridge Dressage. She also worked as an Assistant Conference Coordinator for King College.

  Jason Sain Jason Sain received a Bachelors of Science in Human Resource Management from Capella University. Mr. Sain has been working for the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina since May of 2009 as a WIA Case Manager/ Employment Consultant. From June 2002 through September 2007 he worked for Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Resort as an Employment Representative, Employee Relations Counselor and HR/ Manager Trainee.

Timothy L. Coffey - Criminal Justice Technology Instructor/Program Coordinator, start 8/9/10
  Tim Coffey

Tim Coffey received his Associate in Applied Science from Mitchell Community College and his Bachelor’s of Science from Gardner-Webb University, both in Criminal Justice. Mr. Coffey also received his Master’s in Business Administration from Gardner-Webb University and his Master’s in Criminal Justice from Appalachian State University. Mr. Coffey has been an adjunct instructor at Mitchell Community College and at Forsyth Tech Community College teaching in both the Criminal Justice program and in Basic Law Enforcement. Since May 2009, he has also been an instructor at the Safety & Health Council of North Carolina. Prior to and during his time as an instructor, Mr. Coffey was employed by the Statesville Police Department where he is still a Reserve Officer.

  Kelly Burch Kelly Burch received her Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management from the University of Georgia and her Juris Doctorate degree in Law from the University of Georgia School Of Law. Ms. Burch was previously employed as an Assistant District Attorney at Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office. Prior, she was a partner at Lunsford & Cucuzza and an Assistant District Attorney at Western Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.

William Brothers - Business Administration Instructor, start 8/9/10
  William Brothers Earned a Bachelor’s of Sciences in Accounting/ Business Administration from Southern Wesleyan University. From Western Carolina University, he earned a Master’s in Business Administration and a Master’s in Entrepreneurship. Most recently, Mr. Brothers was employed by the Bank of Travelers Rest as a Bank Accountant since December 2008. His prior experience is at SC Telco Federal Credit Union as an accountant and at Western Carolina University as a Graduate Teaching Assistant.

Jeff Marley received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Studio Painting & Drawing from Western Carolina University. Jeff has worked for Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Resort since 1999 as a Table Games Supervisor and a Relief Games Manager. He has also participated in various Group Art Exhibits since 1996 and had three Solo exhibits in 2004 & 2005.

Mr. Kinsland owned Black Stone Computer Service providing computer support. He was also employed by the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union, BB&T and Drake Software.

Mitch Boudrot received certification in NC Basic Law Enforcement Training from Southwestern Community College and in Florida Basic Recruit Compliance from the Florida Highway Patrol Training Academy. He also received Bachelor’s in Arts in Philosophy from Saint Mary’s College of MN. Mr. Boudrot has completed the North Carolina Criminal Justice Certification and is a specialized instructor in subject control arrest techniques. He is currently employed by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s office and has previously been employed with the town of Murphy, NC police department. Previously he was also a Loss Prevention, safety, and Hazardous Materials Specialist with Lowe’s. Mr. Boudrot has been a part time Law Enforcement Trainer since 2004. He also spent 10 years as a state trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol.

Mike Davis received an Associate of Arts degree from Southwestern Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in History/Political Science from Western Carolina University. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Public Affairs program at WCU. Mike was most recenlty employed as an Instructor of Administrative Systems at the LBJ Job Corps by SCC. Although Mike has little related work experience, we felt that his strengths are his enthusiasm, work ethic, ability to learn concepts quickly and then teach these concepts and their practical applications.

Asher Webb received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Studies from Bard College at Simon’s Rock. He has additional professional training in Web Design and Interactive Media from the Art Institute - Charlotte. Mr. Webb was employed with Ventilafan, Inc as an E-Commerce Store Manager. He was also employed as a Web Designer with JHBR Enterprises, LLC. He has worked with numerous clients as a freelance web designer and mobile application developer including Top Floor Studios, Macroview Labs and NASCAR Speedparks.

Ms. Nixon received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Eastern Michigan University, a Masters degree in Liberal Studies from Eastern Michigan University and a Masters degree in Liberal Arts from the University of North Carolina – Asheville. Ms. Nixon was most recently employed as an adjunct faculty member at the Macon Campus, teaching English, reading, study skills, humanities and college orientation. She was also a learning consultant in the Learning Assistance Center.

Ms. Watson received an Associate of Arts degree from Lake-Sumter Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management from University of Central Florida. She has passed the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification exam from the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) which makes her eligible for full certification upon completion of the required professional experience criteria. Toni Watson was most recently employed as Human Resources Coordinator and Recruiter with Spherion Staffing. In her employment in HR she has performed many of the same functions that our position is responsible for including benefits orientation, recruitment and staffing, and employee relations.

Ms. Stevens was most recently employed by the Macon County Public Health Center. She was previously employed by the Jackson County Department of Public Health and has a strong background in Child Health. Prior to the public health roles, she was employed by Westcare Health System as a staff nurse. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing Education from WCU.

  Michael Rich Michael Rich received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Philosophy from Huntingdon College and a Master of Divinity degree in Ministerial Studies from Duke University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Recreation from the University of Maryland. Michael Rich was most recently employed as the Elder SAFE Project Coordinator for the 30th Judicial Alliance. He has previous employment as a writer and photographer, Pastor, Communications Director for the Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist Church, instructor with the University of Maryland, and producer of video for the Japan Broadcasting Corporation. He has led workshops and seminars in a variety of subject areas in the United States, Japan, and India.
