1. Southwestern Community College is committed to providing its employees a healthy work environment. By providing a healthy work environment, the college is taking a proactive approach to avoidance of potential health risks before sickness or injury occur.
2. The goals of the college Wellness Program are to assist the employee in attaining good physical and mental health. In turn, this will benefit the college by:
· Reduced absences due to sickness or injury
· Health care cost containment
· Improved employee morale
· Increased employee productivity
· Encouraging the employee to make a positive lifestyle change
· Encouraging and promoting healthy behavior practices
3. The first step in achieving a healthy work environment was in 1988 when smoking was prohibited in all college buildings.
4. The Nautilus exercise equipment was purchased jointly through a combination of state equipment dollars, Student Government Association and College Foundation monies for use by students and staff. To complement the Nautilus weight equipment, several pieces of aerobic equipment has been added to the inventory. This is all contained in the "Wellness" room in Bradford Hall.
5. A walking trail has been established and marked on campus for students/employees who wish to participate in a walking program. Maps designating the walking trail are available through the Human Resources Office.
6. To encourage employees to participate in wellness, the college has in place an Exercise Time Participation Program - 3.33.1. This program encourages employees to participate in a regularly scheduled, organized exercise or fitness activity or an unstructured fitness activity.
