Assessment, Advising and Course Placement Procedures
The Concurrent Enrollment Placement Committee is responsible for setting the standards and guidelines through which all high school age students are assessed for placement into college level courses leading to a degree. The Committee determines the sections of the College’s placement test to be administered to high school age students.
1. The Committee’s membership is composed of College staff and faculty with input from the high school staff. Membership includes:
1. The college Director of Concurrent Enrollment,
2. The college program liaison and/or proctor of the placement test,
3. A college academic dean,
4. The college Dean of Student Services,
5. One college faculty member,
6. A college senior administrator, and
7. A representative of the high school staff.

2.  The Committee establishes the assessment measures for use in determining the best course of study for each student. Assessment measures include:
a. Accuplacer College Placement Test scores (or other recognized placement test),
b. Writing evaluation,
c. Annual End of Grade/Course test scores,
d. High school academic grades,
e. College course academic grades (if applicable),
f. Teacher assessments,
g. Student self-assessments, and
h. Additional standardized test scores (STAR, PSAT, SAT, ACT, etc.).
3. The appropriate College staff, including the Director of Concurrent Enrollment, the Early College program liaison and/or the Coordinator of Testing implements the procedures developed by the Committee.
4. The Committee establishes and monitors the Advising and Course Placement Standards used for determining the college level courses leading to a degree for students.
a. Under these “Standards”, students are assessed and classified for placement under two (2) placement guides: the Reading / Writing Intensive Course Placement Guide and the Math / Science Course Placement Guide.
b. In each “Guide”, students are placed into one of the following four categories - Clearly Eligible, Eligible, Conditionally Eligible, and Not Eligible. Based on this classification, college-level courses available to the high school student are defined.
c. At the end of the high school sophomore year and at additional times deemed appropriate, students may retake the College’s placement test to determine future access to college level courses.

Initial placement into college-level courses limited to: ACA, PED, COM 110, CIS 110, HEA 110, SPA 111 & 112, and RED 111

Accuplacer scores (reading and sentence skills) between 40 – 49 % tile
Additional evaluation measures indicate/support student’s potential for success
HUM, SOC/BEH SCI courses and RED 111 - selected in consultation with advisor
Clearly Eligible
Accuplacer scores (reading and sentence skills) at or above 50 – 52 % tile
 
ENG, HUM, and SOC/BEH SCI courses selected in consultation with advisor
