Educational Opportunities offers students and community members opportunities to prepare for and succeed in college and / or the work place. The department consists of four distinct departments – Career and College Readiness, Human Resources Development, Developmental Education, and the Learning Assistance Center – that work cooperatively to meet the needs the of learners of all levels.
Career and College Readiness provides adults educational opportunities to prepare for and complete a high school credential (GED or Adult High School Diploma) and transition to college or employment. Additionally it provides educational opportunities for adults to improve their reading, writing, mathematics, employability, and communication skills through three major program components including Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education, English as a Second Language
Human Resources Development provides assessment services, employability training, and career development counseling to the unemployed, underemployed, individuals in transition and the emerging workforce. It not only provides the instruction, but also provides the much needed support for unemployed and dislocated workers within the college service area.
Developmental Studies provides instruction in English, math, and college reading that will equip underprepared students with the competencies needed for their areas of study and provide them with the writing, reading, math, and study strategies necessary to succeed in college curriculum courses.
The Learning Assistance Center fosters the development of critical skills in all academic studies to help create attitudes that promote lifelong success. Learning consultants assist with general academic help such as test prep, research, math, Internet use, essay revision, textbook reading, computer issues, and homework.
