In this course, you will learn how to create and deploy discussions using the discussion forum tool in Moodle. Additionally, we will discuss the rationale for using discussion boards and some best practices for implementing and using them in your classes.
We'll explore some questions such as:
What is a discussion board?
Why should I use discussion boards?
What sorts of prompts make for the best discussions?
What are some practical ways that I can use discussion boards effectively to increase student engagement and learning?
How are my colleagues at SCC using discussion boards in their classes?

  • Recognize the main components of the Moodle discussion board tool.
  • Identify reasons to use the discussion board tool.
  • Articulate ways the discussion board can help you meet your course objectives.
  • Identify best practices for online discussions.
  • Create effective and engaging discussion board prompts.
  • Create a grading rubric for online discussions.
