Narrative:

Southwestern Community College provides a healthy, safe, and secure environment for all members of the campus community. The College proactively plans and prepares for potential emergencies, eliminates potential risks, minimizes known hazards, invites inspection and scrutiny by trained professionals, and responds to issues when they arise.

A primary function of College personnel from facilities management, maintenance, grounds keeping, and security departments is to prepare and maintain a secure and safe campus environment. Inspections of College facilities demonstrate a safe environment as evidenced by the most recent fire inspections (21, 22) and safety inspection (23). An active Health and Safety Committee (24) researches health, safety, and security issues and recommends action to be taken. Employee and student survey results show satisfaction with security on campus (25, 26). The college has received the fifth consecutive annual safety award from the North Carolina Department of Labor (27). Crime statistics reports as required by the Clery Act of 1990 reflect a lack of crime on or near campus (28).
