Narrative: The members of the Board of Trustees are appointed by the board of county commissioners, board of education, or the governor. This assures a diverse and unbiased body representative of the service area. The board serves the interest of the community and the state by directing the College to achieve its mission (1).

The Board of Trustees is subject to the College policy regarding conflicts of interest. This is covered in detail in Compliance Statement 3.2.3. Gubernatorial appointees to the board are covered under the Governor’s Executive Order One that requires public officials to serve and exercise authority for the good of the public and not use such power for narrow interest for oneself or other persons or groups (2).

Board members are not compensated in any way for the service provided (3).

College employees are free to exercise political beliefs (4) and religious beliefs as citizens. Policy set by the board clarifies that political activity of employees must not enter the scope of employment nor interfere with performance of duties (5).

Employees are assured of the College support of academic and personal freedoms (6). The College complies with the provisions of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 banning discrimination because of political affiliation and religion among other protected classes and activities (7).

Neither the board nor the College has received any accusations of undue influence from political, religious, or other external bodies.
