The
College’s Evaluation of Performance policy requires
an annual performance assessment be conducted of all
full-time faculty and staff (2).
The Evaluation Procedure (3)
specifies that performance be assessed for full-time,
part-time/adjunct, and probationary faculty. The procedure
identifies student opinion surveys and direct supervisor
assessment as the primary means for faculty performance
evaluation. Faculty and academic administrators use
results of these evaluations as indicators of the quality
of instruction at the College and as the basis for assuring
the continuous improvement of faculty performance.
The
Faculty Evaluation procedure requires that full and
part-time faculty performance be assessed each semester
through student opinion surveys. At least two courses
taught by each full-time instructor and at least one
course taught by each part-time instructor are surveyed.
Students in seat-based courses are surveyed using the
Student Opinion Survey form (4),
and students in online courses are surveyed using the
Distance Learning Course Evaluation form (5).
Faculty are provided with the survey results for their
courses at the conclusion of each semester. Copies of
faculty student opinion survey results are maintained
in each of the three academic division offices (Arts
and Sciences, Career Technologies, and Health Sciences).
A verification of College records indicates that course
surveys are completed for faculty (6).
Faculty
performance is also evaluated directly by supervising
deans/directors. Performance for full-time faculty is
assessed each spring semester by the supervising director/dean
using the Continuous Improvement Plan for Faculty form
(7). This
process evaluates instruction/teaching, student interaction,
collegiality, leadership, administrative responsibility,
and professional development. Copies of completed forms
are maintained in the academic division office and personnel
files (8). Consistent with college policy (9),
new full-time faculty have three periodic probationary
performance reviews during their first year of employment.
Probationary reviews are conducted by the supervising
dean/director using the Probationary Performance Review
form (10)
to evaluate job knowledge, quality of work, cooperation,
dependability, attendance, interpersonal skills, and
organizational skills. A verification of College records
indicates that current Continuous Improvement Plan and
Probationary Performance Review forms are completed
for full-time faculty (11).
Performance
for part-time faculty is assessed each semester using
the Adjunct Faculty Performance Assessment form (12).
This process evaluates knowledge of subject area, quality
of work, cooperation, dependability and attendance,
administrative performance, interpersonal skills, and
organizational skills. Copies of the completed form
are maintained in the academic division office files
(13). A verification of College records indicates that
forms are completed for part-time faculty (14).
