The
Southwestern Community College Library staff members
each hold the proper credentials for their current positions.
The number of staff is sufficient to accomplish the
mission of the College.

The
library staff includes two ALA-accredited professional
librarians in the full-time positions of Library Director
(1 & 1a)
and of Librarian (2
& 2a).
Professional status is based on the level of job responsibilities
indicated in the position profiles, successful demonstration
of abilities and capabilities in executing those job
responsibilities, appropriate education, training, and
experience. In addition to the professional staff, there
are two part-time paraprofessionals, each bearing the
title of Library Assistant (3).
The Human Resources department verifies proper credentials
prior to the hiring of any staff member.
According
to the 2005 SCC Faculty/Staff Evaluation of College
Services, over 87% of respondents indicated “The
library staff is helpful and knowledgeable,” and
none disagreed with that statement. In the same survey,
85% of respondents agreed and none disagreed that “Library
staff respond to requests promptly.” (4)
According
to the 2004 (5)
and 2005 (6)
SCC Student Climate Surveys, over 90% of students surveyed
each year indicated they were “satisfied with
the services of the SCC Library,” and less than
10% indicated they were not satisfied.
Annual
Library Student Surveys showed comparable results. In
response to the statement, “I am satisfied with
the services provided by the library staff,” less
than 7% in 2004 (7),
and less than 4% in 2005 (8),
indicated they were not satisfied with the services
provided by SCC Library staff.
All
Library staff members participate in in-house staff
meetings, as well as attending regular College professional
development activities. The Library Director is an active
contributor to the Instructional Administrators’
monthly department meetings. The Librarian is a member
of the President’s Council. Both of the librarians
also participate in professional organizations. The
Library Director is a member of the North Carolina Library
Association, and the Librarian serves as liaison to
the Mountain College Library Network.
