SCC/WCU Band

Join the WCU Marching Band!

If you're an SCC student with an interest in band, we offer a great opportunity to participate in Western Carolina University's Pride of the Mountains Marching Band.

To participate, students sign up for MUS 133 at SCC (WCU's band time). Students must complete an online commitment form and sign up for auditions in the spring. More information on this process can be found here. To learn more about how to participate in the band through SCC, contact the University Transfer Advising Center (UTAC) at 828.339.4301 or utac@southwesterncc.edu.

The WCU marching band was founded in 1938 with just 23 students. Today, the award-winning marching band has grown to almost 500 members, one of the largest in the United States. This "world’s largest funk-rock band" is widely regarded as one of the top marching bands in the Southeast for its elaborate field shows, with a crowd-pleasing medley of up-tempo pop tunes, electric guitars, singers and more.

The band has performed two times for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. In 2014, Pride of the Mountains was one of only ten marching bands selected from across the nation to perform in the parade. They were also chosen as the lead band for the parade, kicking off the entire event from Central Park. They were asked to perform again for the 2019 parade.
