SSS students tour UNCWSSS Students Visit UNCW Campus - A group of SCC SSS college transfer students recently traveled on a three-day trip to Wilmington to visit the UNCW campus as part of the Student Support Services program’s transfer initiatives to prepare students for graduating and/or transferring to a 4-year university. . » full story

SSS- helping students through college - “Sometimes a student might need a little help SSS - helping students through collegemaking it through the college experience. That’s why we are here,” said Cheryl Contino-Conner, SCC director of Student Support Services. The support can range from academic counseling to personal and career counseling- or even personal tutoring. If a student has a disability, SSS can assist with special services. Perhaps a student needs a laptop or a calculator- SCC offers a resource loan program. Or perhaps the need is financial- SCC provides supplemental grant aid. . . » full story

Student Support Services Volunteer for Adopt-A-HighwayHere's to Making a Difference
As the national Make a Difference Day takes place this Saturday, Oct. 28, Southwestern Community College's Student Support Services has been involved in a Volunteering and Civic Involvement Program. This week, through the Adopt-A-Highway program, participants cleaned a stretch of North River Road running from Webster to Dillsboro. In a gesture of neighborliness and appreciation, the folks at the Chocolate Factory in Dillsboro support their efforts by providing fruit smoothies and mocha freezes to the group as they finish their project. » full story

SSS TeamStudent Support Services program receives $1 million grant - SCC's Student Support Services program has received a grant for over $1 million to help students stay in college, graduate and transfer to four-year institutions if they choose. Funded by a Department of Education Title IV Education source, the grant will make it possible for the college to continue this initiative for another four years. >> read more
